The Aquaculture Atlas Generation VRE supports the review of maps of aquaculture in cages and coastal ponds. The maps are generated using CLS’s EODE portal and are based on optical imagery for marine cage detection, and optical and radar imagery for coastal pond detection. The VRE relies on BlueBRIDGE data services to manage users and content, and for the visualization of the input (FAO provided) maps, output (generated by EODA) maps, and ancillary geospatial data. The input and output maps will be visualized in an integrated map-viewer, and will come with validation and edit features. Where possible and relevant, the maps will the generated using Earth Observation (preferably Copernicus) datasets; this is developed for coastal aquaculture ponds detection. A VRE is needed for the validation of the output and to produce and publish OGC compliant data and catalog entries. The VRE ultimate aim is to contribute maps to the FAO National Aquaculture Sector Overviews (NASO).
